Is algehele anesthesie (narcose) noodzakelijk?

Dit verschilt per operatie. Zo zal een facelift of borstcorrectie onder algehele anesthesie geschieden, terwijl bij een liposculpture (vetwegzuiging) met spinale anesthesie (ruggenprikje) of, bij een beperkte hoeveelheid vetweefsel, met plaatselijke verdoving volstaan kan worden. Bepaalde operaties, zoals de oor- en ooglidcorrectie, gebeuren vrijwel altijd onder plaatselijke verdoving. Tenslotte zijn er operaties, zoals de neuscorrectie, waarbij u soms kunt kiezen tussen plaatselijke verdoving of algehele anesthesie.
